Bosch Projects is proud to have played a critical role in the upgrade of the Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (SRSA) tyre factory in Ladysmith, KZN.
SRSA, which acquired the manufacturing and distribution license for Dunlop tyres in 2013, embarked on these much needed modernisation and upgrade projects at the Ladysmith manufacturing facility in 2014, to increase capacity and align technology, so as to meet Sumitomo’s impeccable global standards.
Bosch Projects was appointed in 2014 as consultant for phase 1 of ‘Project Sunrise’ – with responsibility for multi-disciplinary designs and management. The objective of the project was to increase the factory’s production volume of passenger and start production of SUV tyres. In August 2015, SRSA bought out the plant and equipment for the Truck and Bus radial tyres, from the Durban (Apollo) factory and moved forward with phase 1 of Project Southern Cross. This decision would now enable SRSA to produce their own TBR size tyres for the African market. Bosch Projects has successfully kept within budget for the first 3 phases of project Sunrise and the initial phase of project Southern Cross. In 2017 Bosch Projects was awarded the ‘Training Centre upgrade and refurbishment project’ showcasing their skills in the commercial sector with a jewel finished product, which stands out in the harsh Ladysmith factory environment. In 2018 Bosch Projects continued their services for SRSA with a further 6 smaller projects, including a new boiler house expansion project.
Bosch Projects was responsible for MV and LV electrical design; civil and structural designs; as well as architecture for industrial and commercial buildings. Other components included concrete tilt-up technology, standard masonry, the erection of a light steel frame for the office block and installation of carbon fibre strips technology for remedial strengthening of the older concrete structures. The (light and heavy) industrial buildings complied with fire regulations and overhead cranage dynamic loadings. Bosch Projects also handled the co-ordination management component of the project.
