Berth 702 Conversion to Export Products: FEL 1 to 3 Studies and Designs

Project Scope:
Berth 702 is a bulk import berth at Richards Bay with a low occupancy. The project was to increase its usage by converting it to an export berth for Coal from the adjacent RBTG Coal Terminal. The conversion of berth 702 would increase the coal capacity of the terminal by around 17 Mtpa, through providing a high speed 9,000t/hr ship loader and with a direct link from the inland site via a 2100mm wide 5,25m/s high speed export conveyor system with an average capacity of 7650 tonnes/hour at bulk density of 0,8-3,5 tonnes/m³. The FEL1 and FEL 2; Conceptual and Pre Feasibility studies considered the simulation and optimisation of the export system, the various routing options and the selection of the preferred solution. The later stages considered the development of the selected option.
