Project Scope:

  • Facilities at Richards Bay could not cope with the projected volume of imports and Portnet appointed Bosch Projects to undertake the engineering and construction management of a 200 000t store for coking coal. The objective of the project was to provide Iscor with a terminal facility, which would permit coal consignments to be discharged quickly, without being dependent on the availability of rail wagons. The store with its unloading and reclaim systems was completed in two phases, phase 1 with a capacity of 90 000t and phase 2 with an additional capacity of 120 000t.

  • A 200 000 t store (77m x 366m x 30m high) with reclaim tunnel and overhead tripper
  • A 2200 t/hr unloading system from ship to store
  • A 1250 t/hr reclaim system from store to rail
